Take one idea, a pair of cameras, and a trio of friends and go shoot whatever takes your fancy in depth.

SMPTE Australia Section, in association with the ACS, is going to hold a 3D Film Festival "Dimensionale ™" to be run during SMPTE09 Conference and Exhibition.It is anticipated that 3D stereoscopic imaging - capture, processing and display, - will be a major feature of the Conference through the Papers program, as well as demonstrations on the Exhibition Floor.

Entries were screened on the Exhibition floor in Room 1 between breaks in the Conference sessions.

The top 3 entries were awarded prizes at the Gala Awards Evening on the Wednesday night, 22nd July 2009.

To enter the Dimensionale™ Film Festival is free; content is wide open, 3D film maximum duration 3 minutes.

Content and creativity are more important than sophisticated camera rigs or goofy effects and entries will be judged by an industry panel drawn from SMPTE and ACS. It is anticipated that with the interest in 3D films from the major production studios, a new critical characteristic of films that can be called Dimensional Fidelity will become a major talking point. In this context, entries will be accepted for work that is creatively novel, such as sequences of 3D stills, i.e. not necessarily 24/25 frames per second. All films must be in English or have English subtitles. Audio tracks will be mono or stereo.

Dimensionale™ may use extracts from the films and stills for publicity and Festival promotion purposes.
Preference will be given to films made for this Festival, but previous 3D films made can be submitted.
All decisions of the Judging Panel will be final.
